UPDATE: The red light sauna from the video now ships free, with a full year to try it at home.
7 mistakes to avoid · energy after work
You just watched “The whole family noticed.” Here are 7 after-work mistakes that leave you on the couch by 8.
Number 4 is why most home saunas are just hot boxes.

Nobody runs out of gas overnight. It takes years. A little more coffee every quarter, a little earlier on the couch every winter, while you tell everyone you're fine.
Then it starts to show. Asleep in front of the TV by 8. Wide awake at 3. An afternoon that only moves with another can.
Since the video went up, the same questions keep coming in. What is that thing in his garage? Does a sauna actually change anything? Which one? Here are the 7 mistakes we see most.
7 mistakes to avoid · energy after work
“How come Dad doesn't fall asleep on the couch anymore?” Ben noticed before anyone else did.
Kids keep score. Most dads never hear what they're counting.

“Dad?” “Five more minutes.” “You said that yesterday.”
For two years, Dan's evenings went the same way. Home at 6:30. Couch by 7. Out cold in the blue TV light by 8:15. Then wide awake at 3.
Megan stopped asking. Ben didn't. Here are the 7 mistakes Dan was making, and what changed when he fixed them.
7 mistakes to avoid · energy after work
“Dude, what have you been doing lately?” His running buddy asked first.
For three years, Marcus waited for him at the top of that hill.

Dan used to stop halfway. Hands on his knees. “Go ahead, I'll catch up.”
Now Marcus is the one asking for a breather. Dan's answer was one sentence: he swapped his afternoon energy drink for twenty minutes in a red light sauna every night.
Here are the 7 mistakes he made before that, and what he learned.
Mistake 1
Calling it “just being tired”
Most people explain it away. Long week. Kids. Getting older. Tap the ones that sound like you:
Tap any that fit. Nobody sees this but you.
One or two can be a long week. Keep reading anyway.
That's most evenings. It's exactly where Dan was.
All five. That's not a long week, that's a pattern.
0 of 5Most of these come back to two things: how you get through the afternoon, and how you come down at night. Both change slowly, so most people don't notice until someone else says it out loud.
Wondering which one fits your house? Take the 60 second fit check
A self check, not a diagnosis. Exhaustion that won't lift, chest pain or trouble breathing is a call to your doctor, not a sauna question.
Mistake 2
Fighting the 3 p.m. wall with another can
It works for about an hour. That's the trap.
Caffeine clears slowly. A can at 3 is still partly in you at bedtime, so you sleep lighter, wake up flat, and reach for another one the next afternoon.
Caffeine left from one 3 p.m. energy drink
Uses a 5 hour half life, a commonly cited average. It varies a lot by person.Illustration
From the video · Scene 4
“Honestly? I swapped my afternoon energy drink for twenty minutes in a red light sauna every night.”
Dan, to Marcus, on the trail
He didn't add a stimulant. He took one away, and gave his evening something better to do.
Mistake 3
Passing out on the couch and calling it rest
Falling asleep in front of the TV at 8:15 feels like rest. Then you shuffle to bed at 11:40 and stare at the ceiling at 3.

Dan, before. Scene 13 of the video. Dramatization; photo is illustrative.
Tap through Dan's evening, before and after:
- Home. Straight to the couch.
- Dinner in front of the TV.
- Out cold. Ben gives up on hoops.
- Shuffles to bed. Suddenly wide awake.
- Up again. Phone.
- Alarm. First coffee of four.
- Home. Hoops with Ben before dinner.
- Dinner at the table.
- Twenty minutes in the Caldera, red panel on.
- Cool shower. Phone on the charger.
- Asleep.
- Up before the alarm.
Dramatization based on the Relaxe video. Not a sleep plan or a typical result.
The sauna minutes aren't magic. What changed is that his night got a wind down that isn't a screen: twenty minutes of heat, a cool shower, then bed.

“Now he isn't passed out on the sofa after work, and he actually sleeps through the night.”
Megan, to her friend Jen
Mistake 4
Thinking every sauna is a hot box
From the video · Scenes 16 and 17
“A sauna? Isn't that just a hot box?”
“Not even close, man. Most saunas just heat the air.”
Marcus, then Dan
Marcus has a point. A traditional sauna heats the air, and the hot air heats you. That's why they take a while to warm up and can feel like breathing through a towel.
Infrared works the other way. The heaters warm you directly, at a lower air temperature, so twenty minutes feels like a long exhale instead of an endurance test.

Mistake 5
Getting the heat and skipping the light
From the video · Scene 9
“Red and near-infrared light. Supposedly it's the light your mitochondria use to make energy.”
Josh, whispering at the office
Josh hedged it, and he was right to. Here's the less hand-wavy version.
Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths in the red and near infrared range. The Caldera's panel puts out two of the most commonly used ones: 660 nm red and 850 nm near infrared, from 180 LEDs you sit within two feet of.
What researchers study, not a measured effect of the Caldera.Illustration
Researchers study these wavelengths for how light interacts with the mitochondria in your cells. That research is on red light in general, not on the Caldera, so we'll leave the big promises to the internet.

The honest catch: it's a habit, not a pill. Twenty minutes, most nights. The people who use it twice and let it turn into a coat rack never find out what it does for them.

★★★★★
I cannot tell you how great this sauna is. I had been going to our gym for saunas and decided I’d like to have one at home for convenience- and I expected to use it more often. The temperature is great - up to 146 so far. I use the red light panel while the sauna heats up. Love the red light! What a great additional benefit. I monitor my heart rate and I do get to Zone 2 which is one of my goals. I have recommended this sauna to many friends!

Mistake 6
Assuming a home sauna means an electrician
This is the one that stops most people. They picture a contractor, a new circuit and a month of sawdust.
The one person Caldera plugs into a standard 120V wall outlet. It's 36 by 43 inches and 75 inches tall, arrives flat-packed in boxes that fit through a normal doorway, and two people put it together in about 45 minutes.
Tap through the fit check:

Where would it go?

Mistake 7
Judging it on night one
Heat and light aren't a can of anything. Nothing kicks in at minute twenty-one. Here's how Dan's first two months went in the story:
Night 1
Twenty minutes feels long
He took his phone in. Megan laughed at him through the glass. The next night, the phone stayed on the charger.
Week 1
Bed, not the couch
Out of the heat, a cool shower, and into bed while the house is still quiet. The 8:15 couch nap quietly disappears.
Week 2
The 3 p.m. can stays in the fridge
Josh notices first. No third coffee run, no energy drink on the desk.
Week 4
Hoops after dinner
Jen asks Megan what she did to her husband. Megan says he sits in a red light sauna every night.
Week 8
Marcus asks
Top of the hill. Marcus is the one out of breath this time. “All right, man. What is this red light sauna thing?”
Dramatization based on the Relaxe video. Individual results vary.
Almost every dad who ends up on that couch says the same three things first. “I'm fine.” “Long week.” “I'll start Monday.”
Then one night, your kid asks the question out loud. The easiest night to start is a normal Tuesday. Keep calling it tired and give the couch another year. Or give it 365 nights, and send it back if it's not for you.
Six honest answers
Will it fix my sleep?
No sauna can promise that. A lot of people use an evening session to wind down before bed. If something specific is keeping you up, talk to your doctor.
How hot does it get?
64 to 149°F, with a timer from 0 to 90 minutes. Twenty minutes, like Dan, is a comfortable place to start. New to heat? Start shorter and lower.
Will it fit in my house?
The one person is 36 x 43 inches, 75 inches tall, and needs a 7 foot ceiling. It runs on a standard 120V outlet. The two person needs a 20 amp dedicated circuit; the three person needs 240V.
How hard is assembly?
It arrives flat-packed in labeled boxes. Two people, about 45 minutes. Some owners do it solo.
